Libraries are my favorite place to be and honestly, they should be yours. Many people chalk a library up to “just-a-place-for-book-nerds”, I am not saying this is wrong, but I feel libraries' value is much bigger than it seems.
There are so many books at the library (surprise) and you can check out ANY of them. This gives you the freedom to explore all genres without having to buy expensive novels. I didn’t consider myself a graphic novel fan until I saw one in the library that looked interesting. I thought “Heck why not! I can just return it if I don’t like it!”. I ended up liking it so it is a Win-Win situation (I win the happiness of a new interest and the library wins me checking out all their graphic novels). Also, you can learn about ANY topic. If you ever find yourself bored and have a strong thirst for knowledge, just go to the non-fiction section. It can be fun to just know a lot about a random topic.
I think that the library, specifically our Uni school library, is a great hangout spot for any time of the day. Whether you are hanging out with a large group or only two people there is sure to be a place to sit. If a simple place to sit isn’t great enough for you, there are games, puzzles, and other activities to do while there. My personal favorite thing to do is just sit and talk or do the library trivia and get candy. There are also comfy chairs if you want to take a nap (shout out my friend Cora for doing this).
Something you can do at any library is study/homework. When I study at a library I get a lot of work done. At the Uni library, it is best to study in the very back room if you are alone but the front room is good for groups or study buddies. But the absolute best, most awesome fantastic place to study is Grainger engineering library, specifically at the individual study carrels. As non-engineering students, you most likely won’t find any good reads at Grainger but it is the perfect atmosphere to get work done. Be warned, seats there fill up with UIUC students so you have to look a little before you find one.
One final thing I love about libraries’ is their aesthetics. Since this would be better shown than written about I will include some pictures here:

I totally agree with you about libraries Callie! They are great, and I completely agree with all of your points. I've never been to Grainger, but it sounds really nice and the image looks so peaceful and calm. I'll have to check it out sometime. I think another thing about libraries that's cool is how at least the Uni library has things you can borrow besides books, like technology or art supplies. Nice recommendation!
ReplyDelete~Oooh lala! Well this is an exciting post! I really like how your posts are often more then just common book reviews, it makes it even more exciting to read your works!
ReplyDeleteHa, I definitely agree that libraries are amazing! :D
I really enjoyed how you included images of different types of libraries, really amplified my experience with reading this blog post.
Looking forward to more works from you!!!
I like how you reviewed libraries, as opposed to a novel. It is a nice and fresh change! I also enjoy the details you included, especially the pictures. Moreover, I really appreciate that you mentioned aesthetic and also tried to appeal to everyone.
ReplyDeleteUnique post! I liked how instead of writing about books, you wrote about libraries, and not only that, but focused on many aspects of them like aesthetics and the ability to hang out in them. I'd like to see more posts like this in the future!
ReplyDeleteOMG I love this post! I love how you took a different approach and focused on libraries instead. I also very much appreciate the added visuals with libraries near us. I definitely agree that libraries are more than just a "nerd" place and you can do lots there! Lots of libraries have many fun events like trivia and crafts so it can cater to everyone. I definitely agree with Grainger being a great place to study (or maybe even renting out a room with your friends...). Great post!!
